APCC Members and Friends: Florida Hospital Heartland Offering Financial Relief to Hurricane Irma Victims
*From an official Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center Press Release: Patients experiencing financial hardships following the storm can receive payment relief on medical bills.
As the state of Florida recovers from Hurricane Irma, its widespread effects on people and property, including Florida Hospitals in Sebring, Lake Placid and Wauchula, will not be soon forgotten. Natural disasters like Hurricane Irma, which brought severe weather to Highlands and Hardee Counties, can not only threaten lives and damage property, they can also lead to hardships that place financial burdens on families and communities.
To help ease the financial load that many are experiencing in the aftermath of the storm, Florida Hospital is offering relief to patients and their families through the opportunity to modify their payment schedules for care provided by Florida Hospitals in Sebring, Lake Placid and Wauchula.
“Many people in our community are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Irma, and while they recover from the storm, we felt it was important to offer some relief on payments to those experiencing financial hardships as they focus on getting their lives and families back to normal,” said Florida Hospital Heartland President and CEO Randy Surber.
As part of the relief that is being offered, patients can request up to a 30-day pause on financial collections, and their payments will be adjusted accordingly. Depending on their respective situations, patients may be eligible to receive further adjustments to payment schedules, potentially including an additional 30-day extension, fee waivers or other appropriate hardship arrangements. Patients may also be referred to services that can help provide resources to rebuild, recover and be made whole again.
Florida Hospital Heartland is part of Adventist Health System, one of the largest faith-based health systems in the country, which is offering this payment relief at its facilities across Florida. In addition, Florida Hospital Heartland also has a year-round financial assistance program in place for patients receiving non-elective hospital services who are not covered by any form of insurance or government program.
To learn more about taking advantage of these payment options, patients should call the customer service phone number provided on their statement, and speak to a patient financial services representative.
